A couple of sketches

Left - Sulfur.
Right - Hydrogen (little girl), Neo (holding H looking annoyed) and Oxygen (brothers)

Just a couple of sketches I've done in my free time. I'm still working on Elements (it's going to be my senior thesis) but I've been in the research phase and not really working on character concepts yet. But hopefully I should be done with all the research by the middle/end of October and then busting out some concepts.

More Zinc, Copper and Magnesium

I really suck at updating this thing. But I am working on art, I promise!

Here's some art featuring Zinc, Copper and Magnesium! These are becoming my favorite guys to draw lately, they're just so much fun!

I love how this sketch came out. I may work on it more, maybe even turn it into a finished piece! I think it would make some cool promo art, eh?

Just when I thought I was tired of Ke$ha... nope. It came back. Whenever I listen to Ke$ha I have to draw Zinc gettin' down with his bad self. The sketch of Zinc and Copper playing videogames was drawn at an earlier date.

Drawing a lot of Coral at the moment, expect some stuff with her next!

Aluminum, Magnesium, and Copper

Yo, sorry about the lack of updating. Haven't had much time to produce new artwork, so I thought I'd post some of the old stuff.

Top Left: Magnesium, an Element who after his release from the lab retreated to a small town and became a car mechanic. Zinc, Aluminum, and Copper were sent to recruit him to OPTE. Magnesium (also known shorthand as "Mag") is roommates with Copper and Zinc, and Aluminum is is best friend (and love interest). Top Right: Aluminum (also known shorthand as "Al" and sometimes "Ali") is a cheerful, helpful woman with amazing physical strength. She harbors a not-so-secret crush for Copper, much to the disapproval of Magnesium. Bottom: A collage of Magnesium/Aluminum.

Left: Copper, a quiet and serious Element who has been at OPTE for the longest of the group (the group being Copper-Al-Mag-Zinc). Zinc is his best friend, but he usually secludes himself from other people. Middle: A sketch of Aluminum, probably daydreaming about Copper. Right: A terrifying realization of what Al-Mg-Cu reminds me of... D:

I'll try to be better about updating. :c

Elements elsewhere

While looking at the Best Buy ad today, I saw the DVD cover for "Breaking Bad", a show I've never heard of before:

And here's the opening title:

Kinda cool! I read the synopsis of the show and it doesn't really spark my interest much, but it's nice to get ideas.

You guys should let me know if you find any other elements-related stuff, I'd love to see it!

Alright, back to work.

New banner

Just wanted to draw some attention to the incredibly SEXY new web banner we have, courtesy of VioletIris Productions! Thank you J, the blog looks 100% better now!

Also, the Links page is up! If you want to be included on the Links page just drop me a comment at let me know! And if you could link back to me, that would be spectacular!

Well, back to work!

Concepts - Zinc

Do you ever listen to music that one of your characters would normally listen to, but YOU definitely wouldn't?

Yes. Well everybody, meet Zinc.

Zinc just loves jamming to his tunes. His favorite artists are Lady Gaga, Fall Out Boy, and - most recently - Ke$ha. <-- hence the beginning of this post. He also enjoys playing video games, cooking eggs in his underwear, and overreacting.

A finished "fake screenshot" of Zinc and his best friend, Copper.

Zinc is... fffff I don't even know. I love Zinc, really. He's one of the few Elements whose personality just spiraled out of control and formed a life of its own. He's goofy, can be kind of a bastard, and he has terrible taste in music. He doesn't let being an Element get him down, and prefers to live his life in the moment. Zinc is also a vegetarian - most meat products are high in zinc and if he gets weird if he oversaturates.

We will get more technical later.

HMMMMM maybe I should post a new Element every week? We'll see.

Concepts - Neo(n)

Hello again! Thought I'd start this baby out with some concept art of Elements' main character, Neo! (aka Neon)

Older concepts. He had much bushier hair back then!

More recent depictions. Simplified his hair and his outfits.

Finished illustration of Neo at the Hartcord Mansion. The Hartcords find him injured and take him in.

Neo, our unfortunate hero, is a young boy about 15 or 16 years old. The Elements story begins from Neo's point of view as several other Elements break him out of a lab and attempt to flee the country. Their plan is foiled, however, and an injured and confused Neo winds up being taken in by a rich family. Neo doesn't remember any of his past prior to his transformation, and throughout the rest of the story attempts to find out who he is and where he came from. Even though he is the element Neon, everyone calls him Neo.

Neo is polite, helpful, and socially challenged. He is open and goofy around people he knows well, but terribly awkward around strangers. Small and lithe, Neo excels in speed but is challenged in the field of combat. His element powers include turning into a gaseous state when excited - basically he can manipulate the spacing of particles in his body (so if you were to try and cut his arm off with a sword, he could turn gaseous and the sword would pass right through his arm) - but he doesn't find this power until later in the series.

Stay tuned for more!

First Post!

Welcome, everyone! We just moved here from LiveJournal and we're very excited to be here.

To those who don't know, this is the sketch/idea blog for KcD Studios' work-in-progress, "Elements". "Elements" is a story concept that aspires to be an animated tv show similar in caliber to "Avatar - The Last Airbender". The story takes place on a scientifically-advanced world where genetically-altered humans fused with the power of the chemical elements are caught in the middle of a long-standing war. The story follows the Noble Gas Neon - nicknamed "Neo" - and his friends, who must align the lost Elements and bring the fighting to an end.

This sketchblog will contain concept art, writings, storyboards, and anything else I decide to put up here. "Elements" is also going to be the basis of my MIAD senior thesis, so hopefully this blog will also track my progress through this long and intense project.

Looking forward to embarking on this adventure with you! Please don't hesitate to leave any feedback you may have!
